I got new shoes

So do you like them?

You too can have a pair of concrete shoes ~ all it takes is a whole lotta bad food and a whole week of no running.

I took these bad boys out for a spin this morning ~ oh, what a run.

But okay, so I ran. FINALLY.

So now Eileen can rest and not have to worry about scheduling an intervention ;) and Scary Woman doesn't need to threaten me via text messages to chase me down the street!!! All is good again.

But I can't sugarcoat ~ the run stunk. Sucked. Horrible. 5 miles and it all hurt. Okay, maybe not hurt ~ but it certainly wasn't comfortable. My legs screamed at me the whole way - trying to figure out how the heck I could expect them to propel me forward for an hour after letting them slack for over a week.

Somehow I made it out and back on my usual 5 mile route ~ even though the urge to turn around at the 1.5 mile mark was way too strong. I needed to get the miles in today ~ no matter how ugly they were.

So, I ran. And walked. And complained. And ran some more. And in the end, the mission was accomplished. Luckily Garmie was dead in the drawer when I headed out, so I can't even complain about how slow I was. A run is a run.

And as a wise, wise woman said to her son this past Tuesday after a tough workout with his trainer:

That's why it's called a workout. If it was supposed to be easy, it would be called a nap.

:P

Good for you, Poke, 5 miles is 5 miles.

Great job not turning around at 1.5. We've all be tempted. It speaks to your incredible dedication and fortitude that you stuck it out. Even if it was sucking.

You got out there and did it, even with those non stylish shoes..LMAO!
It is funny the other day I was telling a bud about my 5 miler and I said it felt like my feet were cylinder blocks. Ummm, I can totally relate. They will be clouds next time :-)

Do those come in slightly over pronation? :-) Yay for getting back out there! Woot!!!

Great job, Pokey. Bask in the glory that you did it and that it sucked but you didn't turn around. It wouldn't be nearly as satisfying if it wasn't so hard. :D

Yeah, I know, easy to say, harder to do.....

5 miles is 5 miles is 5 miles, and you did it! :)

"That's why it's called a workout. If it was supposed to be easy, it would be called a nap." - LOVE IT!

I guess those shoes would not be considered cushioned trainers?

Nice job getting out there and fighting throught the five miles.

Don't be too hard on yourself about easing up on the running recently - sometimes you just need a break.

Hey, you did it! Awesome! I bet your next run will be more forgiving. That's the great thing about it - it DOES get easier when you do more. :)

Glad you got that taken care of. Now string another 2 or 3 of those in this week and you will feel like a new women.

Hey Pokey. The best part is that you got it done.

OMG you crack me up. Hey you got out there. It could have turned into 2 weeks, but you didn't let it. So don't beat yourself up too bad. Hope it's a better week for you, sistah!

Hi Pokey

The fact of the matter is that you got it done. It seems a scary thought, but probably something like 99% of our population will never get out there and do what you just did.

I say "congrats!" on just being a runner

Unfortunately I have a pair that I break out now and then.

Nice job getting out.

5 Miles is great... sucky or not! Did you get a good stretch in? I know all week my legs have been giving me hell, but I'm not stretching... Where was this lightbulb moment on Monday? I hope now that your bad run is out of the way, you will have an awesome one next!

I hope you don't wear those things tomorrow. :p

I tagged you for the 6 word meme. Hope you will play along, but if not, then that's OK too. :)

Talk to you tonight and see you tomorrow! YAY!
